What are the Best Opportunities After Clearing the GATE Exam?

by Uneeb Khan

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering or GATE examination mainly focuses on the comprehensive understanding of various undergraduate subjects in engineering and science, allowing admission of candidates into the Master’s Program and hiring by a few Public Sector Companies.

GATE candidates start their preparation at least a year in advance, which can happen from the third year of college days, and they also have the luxury of being in regular touch with their GATE subject syllabus. Almost every year, 8 to 10 lakhs of aspirants apply for the GATE exam, and in such fierce competition, no mistakes at any stage of preparation can be afforded.

On behalf of the National Coordination Board – GATE, The Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India, GATE 2022 will be conducted by IIT Kharagpur, six other IITs, and the Indian Institute of Science at Bengaluru.

A lot of opportunities are available after clearing the GATE exam –

Increased Career Scope

Several public sector units in the country like BHEL, IOCL, CIL, ONGC, SAIL, BEL, NTPC, HPCL, PGCIL, BARC, and many others recruit from GATE scores. This offers a candidate a lucrative salary and job security. It also helps in learning a lot in these public sector units.

Jobs in MNCs

Many MNCs like Google, Samsung, Amazon, Orica, Holcim, Genpact, Maruti, Cisco, and several others hire engineering candidates holding a Master’s degree qualification.

Teaching Career

After MTech, one can even apply as an Assistant Professor, complete their PhD while earning, and have a great career path ahead. With several new IITs and NITs opening, candidates having PhDs have a very bright career ahead in life.

Higher Studies

GATE considers enrollment in graduate programs at foreign universities, but it is also advantageous when looking for a job at a foreign company. A master’s candidate will certainly get more work opportunities than a master’s candidate. Many companies have shown a tendency to hire MTech or ME students during their internships.

Mentorship

Today, many institutions and universities frequently hire graduate engineering candidates from campus. If you are looking for an academic career option after MTech or ME, you can apply for faculty positions at many universities and well-known universities. You can become an instructor or professor, depending on your qualifications and academic performance. In India, many private institutions have prepared candidates for the GATE exam. You can also get a teaching job at such an institution and get a high salary as a GATE instructor or mentor.

Research and Development

The GATE score is valid for 2 years. After completing MTech, if you are enthusiastic about your topic and want to discover something new, you can also opt for Research, a Junior Research Fellowship at CSIR Laboratories. Research is an underdeveloped field in our exploration country, but with great expectations. Since R & D is considered to take time and effort in Japan, few people are attracted to R & D. That is why they go abroad for a better perspective and future. But why do we need to go to a foreign university to do research and at the same time have a hard time working part-time to cover the costs? You can do the same great breakthrough research in your country while earning huge scholarships to do that.

Dream Colleges

There are also opportunities for students who cannot get into IITs and NITs during engineering entrance examinations. The GATE exam provides them with a golden chance to perform well and get into their dream colleges and companies, as GATE offers a variety of jobs for every engineering stream.

Conclusion

Thus, the GATE exam is always a win-win situation for any aspirant as it offers such a holistic path for a future career and at the same time has so many things to offer for each and every engineering branch, to mention Mining Engineering, Production Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering being some of the most popular ones.

The GATE exam should be one of the main exams to target for all engineers aspiring for a career in the engineering domain or related to further studies in the engineering space. With more technology coming each day, India needs brilliant engineers to keep the nation ahead in the technology race and compete with the rest of the world.
