Kitchen Cabinet Features Every Homeowner Should Consider

by Uneeb Khan

With so much time spent in the kitchen, the kitchen cabinets that are selected will reflect both the room’s style and function. As the heart of the home, the kitchen keeps the family fed, is where they spend time bonding and sharing their day, and is often a gathering point. Choosing these beautiful kitchen cabinets may be harder than ever with so many options now available, including self-closing drawers, appliance storage, lazy susans and organizers, gentle close doors, and drawers.

Self Closing Drawers

Slamming drawers or those that are left open for other people to walk into have been a concern in homes for decades. New drawers have been developed so that they will close themselves when they are gently nudged, rather than remaining open until someone closes it the rest of the way. They move slowly and use gravity to ease them shut.

Appliance Storage

Small appliances can be used daily, making them conveniently placed upon the counter for easy access and use. However, this creates clutter, decreases the space left for use, and makes the room appear full and busy. Appliance storage can be built underneath overhead cabinets or from the counter to the upper cabinets. They often include roll-up doors that can be slid open similar to a garage door, and some are even placed on slide-outs that will allow it to be used within the space or pulled out, used, and pushed back. Once the rolling or sliding door is closed, small appliances such as toasters, coffee makers, and more are out of sight yet easily accessed for the next use.

Lazy Susan and Organizing Drawers

Adding a lazy susan to a corner cabinet can make reaching the items at the back easy and fast. Simply turn the device, and the items at the back are moved to the front. This also works well for spice organization and pots and pans, along with regular food storage.

Organizing drawers are being included in more and more homes as a way to keep the drawers tidy and organized. They keep each item in its place and offer an easy way to see each utensil that you are looking for. A wide range of organizing drawers is available in many sizes, with one or two layers for better use of the drawer, making the best use of the space available.

Wine Storage

Clearing space on the counters and offering additional storage for those who need it or who do not have room for a wine fridge or cellar, wine storage is not being included in many kitchen cabinet sets. This can be at the end of a counter or island, underneath the overhead cabinets, or along the wall on a wide counter that is deep enough to store the bottles and still leave room for meal prep. Available in many styles, it can add storage for as few as six bottles or for a case or two on the lower cabinet.
